Maldivian arrested in India for having peacock feathers
A Maldivian was arrested and released after 14 days in India for having peacock feathers in his hand bag when he went to airport for departure. On 30 December 2012, Mr.Ruffan went to airport with a bag of peacock feathers bought from a popular market in Trivendrum, India. In an interview to daily newspaper Haveeru he said he didnt know it was a crime and he never tried to hide the feathers. The customs officers got hold on him and eventually ended up in prison for 14 days. Later, through court proceedings he was fined and released.
Friends and family welcome Ruffan on arrival at Male' International Airport. Pictures show he was crowed in peacock feathers and was smiling.
